Although he is currently injured, the North Queensland Cowboys know how good he can be, retaining Heilum Luki on a new long-term deal until the end of 2029.
Luki, who is a tall, hard-running back-rower with a strong work ethic, played his junior footy in Cairns before joining the Cowboys Academy in the region at 15 years old.
Not surprisingly, the club showered Luki with praise following the re-signing.
“We are pleased and proud to be able to confirm the re-signing of Heilum to a long-term extension,” Cowboys General Manager of Football Micheal Luck said.
“Heilum joins Tom Dearden as players who are committed to our Club for the longest duration, which as two North Queensland products we are thrilled about.”
As the Cowboys continue to develop talent, it is players like Luki that they believe epitomise what the club is all about.
“He epitomises everything we value as a club – he works hard at training, he’s prepared to do the tough stuff on the field and on top of that he is one of the elite backrow talents in the competition,” Luck continued.
