One of the best wingers in the NRLW at present, the North Queensland Cowboys have moved quickly to retain Jakiya Whitfield long-term with a new deal until the end of 2028 confirmed.

Whitfield, formerly a rugby seven star, has made a seamless transition into rugby league and has become well-known for her dynamism and tackle busting ability.

The talented winger has scored six tries in nine games for the Cowboys since joining the club prior to the 2024 season.

Before that, Whitfield had stints with both the Newcastle Knights and Wests Tigers.

Whitfield has also made a name for herself on the international stage with ten tries in six games for the Jillaroos and her retention is valuable for the Cowboys.

“Jakiya has been an incredible asset to our club since joining in 2024. Her competitive spirit and high standards inspires our squad to strive for excellence,” Cowboys NRLW Head Coach Ricky Henry said.

“She is a true student of the game, dedicating endless hours to improving her skills and football IQ. Her bravery is unmatched and exemplifies her unique qualities as a football player.

“We are thrilled that Jakiya has committed to our program for the next three years and we eagerly anticipate watching her continue to develop both as a player and as a person.”
