Following the success of the NRLW and the Women’s Super League, the French will kickstart their own women’s campaign as Catalans sign current New Zealand Warriors utility back Tyra Wetere.
As the French competition looks to get some international flavour – this competition runs over the next couple of months – Wetere is just the first addition to provide that.
Wetere, a young fullback or winger from the Warriors, snagged four tries in five games this season in the club’s return to the NRLW, with the club granting her a short-term release to take up this deal.
Initially a rugby player, Wetere shifted to rugby league and excelled and her signing has the Catalans Presidents excited to see her play in their new league.
“Welcoming Tyra marks a new step for our women’s team,” the duo said.
“Her arrival enhances the French championship and highlights the tremendous commitment of our coaches and management.”
