In conjunction with his role as head coach of the St George Illawarra Dragons, Nathan Cross has a new role, appointed as head coach of the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons.

Cross’ new appointment as QLD Maroons coach for the females is a two-year deal but he is no stranger to the Queensland system.

He has worked in roles across the Queensland pathways sector, performance programs and been assistant coach of the side.

Cross will be no stranger to many of the Maroons players selected when the next Origin series begins and he is excited to get started in the role.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to be appointed Head Coach of the Harvey Norman Queensland Maroons,” said Cross.

“I’m really excited to be back in this arena and working with such a talented group of players, many of whom I’ve coached previously.”

With plenty at stake when it comes to Origin, Cross is excited to get stuck into the role and grateful for the opportunity.

“I’m extremely grateful to the senior management and board of the QRL for providing me with this opportunity,” continued Cross.

“It’s an exciting challenge and a big responsibility to lead our great state. It’s something that I don’t take lightly.”

Queensland Rugby League CEO Ben Ikin says the appointment of Cross made sense for all parties given how well he knows the structure and the systems in the region.

“Nathan has been a driving force behind our performance systems and pathways. He understands what it means to be a Queensland coach, to lead with humility and build belief.” Ikin said.

“His work within the QRL over the past several years has been exceptional, and this is a natural progression for a coach of his quality and character.”
