In what has been an NRLW off-season filled with player moves so far, the latest change sees China Polata joining the Cronulla Sharks.

Polata, born in Brisbane, signs a two-year deal with the Sharks after spending three seasons with the Cowboys.

Still only 23, Polata has already represented Tonga and after starting her career as a winger, she has made her way into the forward pack as both a back-rower and front-rower.

Polata is excited to put on a Sharks jersey and play in Sydney for the first time, a new experience for her.

“I’m super excited to be part of Cronulla’s club and culture,” Polata said.

“When speaking to Tony (Herman, NRLW head coach) and Casey (Bromilow, NRLW & Female Pathway Manager), I found that a lot of what they’re about as a club aligns with my values and morals, not just as a player but a person.

“I’m super excited for this new experience as I’ve never lived in Sydney before. I can’t wait to play alongside the girls and learn heaps while doing so.”

Sharks coach Tony Herman praised Polata’s versatility as a good asset for the club.

“China is a terrific addition to our squad as we build for next year and beyond,” Herman said.

“She’s still young but is already an international and state representative with plenty of untapped potential. We’re keen to see what she can achieve in black, white and blue.”
