She was an inaugural member of the North Queensland Cowboys NRLW side and today, Tahlulah Tillett has announced her retirement from rugby league.
With her surname synonymous among North Queensland circles – her father played for the Cowboys inaugural NRL side and her grandfather was Northern Pride Chairman – it has been a lengthy journey with the club for all.
The Cairns junior would win two BMD premierships, one with the North Queensland Gold Stars and one with the Mackay Cutters.
Tillett’s NRLW career would see her play in 27 total games; 23 for the Cowboys and four for the Newcastle Knights.
A strong advocate for community work in the Townsville region, Tillett was also honoured with the 2023 Veronica White Medal.
Tillett was grateful to the opportunities she received with both her NRLW clubs and praised them.
“To the Newcastle Knights, the North Queensland Cowboys, our fans and coaching staff, thank you for giving me the opportunity to live out my childhood dream” said Tillett.
“To my teammates along the way I’ll be forever grateful for the memories and the lifelong friendships that we have created.”
Cowboys Head of NRLW and Women’s Elite Pathways Anita Creenaune paid tribute to Tillett’s career and contributions.
“Tahlulah has been an outstanding ambassador for women’s rugby league and a proud representative of her Indigenous heritage,” said Creenaune.
“Her passion for the game has always been matched by her commitment to giving back to the community. She is an inspiration to young kids across North Queensland to chase their dreams.”
Creenaune also commented on the legacy that Tillett will leave behind for everything she has done since those early days as a Cairns junior.
“Winning the prestigious Veronica White Medal is a testament to her tireless efforts off the field and her dedication to making a positive impact.
“Tilly’s legacy will be felt for years to come, as Cowboys NRLW Player No.20, we thank her for everything she has contributed to the game, our team, our Club and the North Queensland community.”
