Impressing an NRL coach is a difficult gig for any player but Thomas Mikaele has done enough to tell Todd Payten just how crucial he is to the club’s forward stocks.

Mikaele has been given a new two-year deal with the Cowboys as he looks to add to his 90 NRL games to date, 23 of which have come for the Cowboys.

It was back in 2019 when Mikaele first made his NRL debut with the Wests Tigers and although injury currently has him sidelined, the Cowboys know how important of a role Mikaele has to play moving forward.

“We are delighted Tom has agreed to extend his time in North Queensland,” Cowboys Recruitment Manager Clint Zammit said.

“Tom is a wonderful example of how hard work and dedication can change the trajectory of your career. He came to our club on a Development List contract after short stays at different clubs in the NRL and Super League and is now a vital member of our squad.

“He is a powerful runner of the ball and provides a point of difference to our attack with his offloading.”

Mikaele has also had stints with the Gold Coast Titans and the Warrington Wolves.
