A player knows when retirement is upon them and Penrith Panthers forward Matt Eisenhuth has made the decision to close the curtain on his NRL career.

Eisenhuth, who came through the junior ranks at the Parramatta Eels, would go on to play in 145 NRL games across stints with the Wests Tigers and the Penrith Panthers.

75 of those games would come with the Panthers with the forward also a key part of the club’s success in the 2022 State Cup competition.

In 2024, Eisenhuth was recognised as the club’s Person of the Year and although he did not feature in any of the Panthers grand finals, he was valued and his contribution to the club was honoured.

“I had the pleasure of coaching Matt as a young NYC player, and to see him finish his career representing the Australian PM’s XIII against Papua New Guinea was incredibly special,” Panthers CEO Matt Cameron said.

“He has been an incredibly valued member of our organisation, and it’s been a privilege to watch his transition from a young player into the professional and respected athlete he is today.

“His work ethic, leadership and commitment to the team helped set the standard for those around him, and he played an important role in the success we’ve enjoyed in recent years.”
