Evie McGrath will head to the nation’s capital for the 2026 season after signing with the Canberra Raiders NRLW side on a supplementary contract.

Still only 20 years old, McGrath played nine games across two seasons for the Wests Tigers and also repped the NSW U19s Origin side on two occasions.

Raiders coach Darren Borthwick is pleased to have McGrath on board and expects that she will bring added depth to their halves.

“I’ve watched Evie closely over the past few years at the Tigers and come through the Steelers system, “Borthwick said.

“When she became available I jumped on it straight away because what she’s done for us is she’s added depth to our halves.”

“She’s been training well in our monthly sessions and is fitting in really well with the group.

“She can cover a couple of positions, fullback as well. Just her being in and around the squad and adding more competition amongst the group is healthy and I’m really happy with the decision.”

Under new changes, supplementary players sit between the top 24 squad and the development players and are eligible for selection should injuries arise during a season.

“It’s great to not only have the option to use the supplementary players but potentially, and Evie’s a good example too, girls that have got a reasonable amount of experience come into your group, which only helps with the squad. Evie’s been a testament to that,” Borthwick continued.

“It’s been a breath of fresh air having Evie here and the option to have two supplementary players within the group, will put a lot of competition into the group.”

McGrath herself says she is enjoying her time so far with the Raiders playing group and wants to keep learning, progressing and developing.

“I’m super excited to be a part of this squad. The coaching staff and all the girls seem so lovely and I’m just happy to be a part of it,” McGrath said.

“It’s a new environment so I’m hoping I keep progressing my game, learning and growing every week.

“You always don’t know what to expect going into a new environment but coming in I was so welcomed.”
