Every player has a year where they surprise many and are thus duly rewarded and for New Zealand Warriors utility back Adam Pompey, 2023 is that year for him.
A mainstay of the Warriors side since round 1, Pompey is the only player at the club to have so far played every single game this season.
Still only 24, Pompey originally joined the Warriors on a train-and-trial deal back in 2018, and has since gone on to play in 72 NRL games for the Warriors.
Andrew McFadden, the Warriors General Manager of recruitment, pathways and development, says it is the best season of Pompey’s career to date.
“In his time with the club, Adam has developed steadily and has really emerged this year in what has been the best season of his career so far,” said McFadden.
“He has put in the work and the performances to fully deserve this new deal. It’s a real credit to Adam and how he has developed into an established first grader.”
Just as impressed is Warriors head coach Andrew Webster who praised Pompey for training hard and taking on board all information.
“From a coaching viewpoint we’ve been hugely impressed with the way Adam has gone about his work right from the start of the preseason,” said Webster.
“He has developed all parts of his game on a game-by-game basis, becoming a much-improved player in all facets and the thing about him is that he still has much more to give.”
