An emerging Newcastle Knights rookie, Fletcher Hunt made quite the impression when debuting for the club and they have moved swiftly to re-sign him.
Hunt’s new deal runs until the end of the 2027 NRL season with the young winger making his debut in round 11 of this season.
The specific terms of the deal will see Hunt on a development contract for the remainder of the 2025 season and for 2026 before he joins the Knights top 30 in 2027.
Hard work and desire go a long way in the game of rugby league and Knights Head of Recruitment Peter O’Sullivan said it was those traits that saw Hunt offered a new deal.
“Fletcher’s hard work and competitive nature has earned the respect of his teammates and staff, this contract upgrade and extension is a fitting reward,” O’Sullivan said.
“It is remarkable how quickly he has established himself in just one year in our system, this is quite unique for such a young player, especially coming from a small country area.”
O’Sullivan also commented on Hunt’s versatility as a player and is excited at monitoring his development over the next few years.
“He has great utility value, he can play anywhere in the backline and lock at a pinch if required, making him an ideal utility moving forward,” O’Sullivan continued.
“We are thrilled with Fletcher’s development and delighted he will be a Newcastle Knight for at least the next three seasons.”
