Needing back-rowers, the Parramatta Eels have sought reinforcements in the form of Matt Doorey and Toni Mataele.

Doorey, who was a Parramatta junior, came through the club’s elite pathways program.

Despite that, Doorey would only see first-grade when he moved to the Canterbury Bulldogs where he played in 18 games.

The return for Doorey to the Eels will be for two seasons until the end of 2024.

Also signing is Toni Mataele, with his deal running until the end of 2025.

Mataele will, however, start the 2023 season as a development player at the Eels.

Eels General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill welcomed the return of two of Eels juniors.

“Both Matt and Toni have returned to the Eels after brief stints at other NRL clubs so it is exciting to be welcoming back these two quality players to our Club,” O’Neill said.

“They will strengthen our backrow stocks and we look forward having them both at pre-season training in preparation for a successful 2023 season,” he said.
