A competition juggernaut since the inception of the NRLW in the Brisbane Broncos against last years’ winners in the Newcastle Knights in Maitland.

Fans at the Maitland Sportsground got a taste of NRLW as the two sides did battle in a trial match, the Broncos coming away as 18-4 victors.

The crowd was ready despite the windy conditions as were the players, as the home side had the better start and were eventually rewarded with the first try.

It was winger Tamerah Leati who finished in the corner to put the Knights up 4-0.

As the Knights looked to maintain their momentum, at times, their attack failed to click, and it was clear they were missing star half Jesse Southwell.

In addition to Southwell, boom prop Caitlan Johnston was also out, but they did dig deep and pushed the Broncos on many occasions.

The Broncos, who are capable of piling on the points, then scored two tries in quick succession before the sides changed ends.

Chelsea Lenarduzzi crashed over from close range before Romy Teitzel added a second with a classy finish.

The Knights were resolute in defence at times and can be pleased with recruit Nita Maynard who was crafty in the middle for the home side.

The Broncos would eventually score a third try with the match finishing 18-4 in their favour.
