We may be yet to begin the 2024 NRL season but the Cronulla Sharks have already delivered the first punch for 2025 with the signing of premiership-winning prop Caitlan Johnston.

Johnston will join the Sharks from 2025 on a three-year deal and boost an already impressive forward pack, likely lining up against namesake Ellie Johnston.

Still only 23, Johnston has established herself as an elite prop in the women’s game and since debuting at 19 for the Sydney Roosters, she has won a World Cup, played for NSW and captained the Indigenous All-Stars side.

Johnston, who was a Windale junior that came through the ranks at Newcastle is a player that Sharks coach Tony Herman cannot wait to have on board.

“This is a significant coup for our club given Caitlan has firmly established herself as one of the premier forwards in the NRLW and a terrific leader,” Herman said.

“She’s already scaled the heights of the game, but at 23, her best years are still ahead of her. We look forward to her coming on board in 2025 and sharing her experience.”
