NSW State of Origin Team and Squad Lineup Game 2 2008:

Brett Stewart, Jarryd Hayne, Mark Gasnier, Matt Cooper, Anthony Quinn, Greg Bird, Peter Wallace; Brett White, Danny Buderus (captain), Craig Fitzgibbon, Ryan Hoffman, Willie Mason, Paul Gallen. Interchange: Anthony Laffranchi, Anthony Tupou, Steve Simpson, Kurt Gidley

NEWCASTLE players Steve Simpson and Kurt Gidley have been called up to the New South Wales team to play Queensland in Origin II at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

Simpson and Gidley were both named on the interchange bench, replacing injured prop Ben Cross and utility back Ben Hornby respectively.

Craig Fitzgibbon moves from the interchange bench to start the match in place of Cross.

Blues selectors are still likely to be forced into another change, however, with winger Jarryd Hayne facing a dangerous throw charge from his Parramatta team’s NRL match against Brisbane at the weekend.

Simpson has played only a handful of matches this season, having injured his knee in round one and returned in round 10.

Gidley is returning after recovering from the fractured cheekbone that ruled him out of contention for Origin I, which NSW won 18-10 at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on May 21.
