A new home beckons for Kaeo Weekes who has signed a two-year deal with the Canberra Raiders from season 2024.

Weekes, who is still only 21, has so far played 12 NRL games, all of which came with the Manly Sea Eagles.

Predominantly a halves player or a fullback, Weekes mostly appeared off the bench or at the back during his Manly stint.

At the age where he wants to play regular footy, Weekes believes he is ready to make his mark in the NRL.

“I think it’s a great opportunity in front of me and I’m looking forward to moving away from home, knuckling down on footy and getting ready for the next challenge in my career,” Weekes said.

Although he is a versatile player, Weekes’ plan is to secure a position in the 17 every week.

“I can play a few positions, but for me it’s really trying to prove myself and find a place in the team week in week out,” he continued.

“I’m looking to come in with determination to cement a full-time position in the team.”

As the Raiders begin to move into a changing of the guard of sorts with stars gone, players retiring and youngsters coming through, the club see Weekes as player to guide them into their next phase.

“Kaeo is another player in the early stages of his NRL career who we think will fit our transition into the new era here at the Raiders,’ Raiders NRL Recruitment Manager Joel Carbone said.

“He has all the athletic tools necessary and seems a very humble and hard-working young man.

He’ll have every opportunity to succeed and further his NRL career here by locking down a consistent position in the NRL team.”
