As the Wests Tigers continue to tweak their roster for season 2024, their latest addition is Amelia Huakau (nee Mafi), who signs on a two-year deal.

Huakau, who most recently signed played in all games for the Parramatta Eels last NRLW season, has also played for the Sydney Roosters.

It is her past with the Roosters that will provide comfortability at the Tigers as she gets to play alongside two former teammates in Sarah Togatuki and Bo Vette-Welsh.

“I know a few of the girls like Sarah [Togatuki] and Bo [Vette-Welsh] from my time at the Roosters, and everyone has been so welcoming,” Huakau said.

Huakau looks forward to donning the Tigers jersey and utilising the skills of head coach Brett Kimmorley to improve her game.

“I love the way last year’s team had a front-foot style of attack and I look forward to improving my game under Brett [Kimmorley] and alongside some of the best forwards in the women’s game,” Huakau continued.

Kimmorley looks forward to seeing what Huakau can do and backs her to get better and to succeed.

“She was very good in what was a difficult campaign last season at her former club,” said Kimmorley.

“I know Amelia will only get better as a player and I really look forward to seeing her game develop over the next couple of seasons with us.”
