In what has been somewhat of a topsy-turvy contract saga for Jarome Luai at the Wests Tigers, a release from the club will see him join the Parramatta Eels for 2027.
Luai, already contracted to the PNG Chiefs as their marquee signing for their inaugural 2028 season, joins the Eels for one year with plenty of pedigree behind him.
Establishing himself as a genuine playmaker of the highest quality in the NRL, Luai is a four-time premiership winner with the Penrith Panthers and has also represented NSW.
It was that series for NSW that saw he and current Eels half Mitch Moses bond, which has Eels fans hopeful that the combination can flourish.
Not surprisingly, Luai drew praise from Eels General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill who knows that the Eels have to take opportunities like this when they arise.
“Jarome is one of the most experienced and successful players of his generation, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the Parramatta Eels next year,” O’Neill said.
“His record speaks for itself.
“Winning four premierships requires an exceptional level of commitment, consistency and professionalism, and those are qualities Jarome will bring to our football program every day.”
With young, talented halves like Lorenzo Talataina in the club ranks, who many believe is destined for a 2028 berth, a player like Luai can guide him in the eyes of O’Neill.
“Beyond what he offers on the field, we believe Jarome will have a tremendous impact on our younger players coming through the system,” O’Neill continued.
“His experience in high-performance environments and his professional approach to preparation and training will help mentor and develop the next generation of Eels.”
