It was back in May that Chanel Harris-Tavita signed on with the New Zealand Warriors for 2027, as he now extends his deal further until the end of 2029.
In the last two seasons, Harris-Tavita has played in 42 of the 45 NRL games the club has played, establishing himself as a key player in the halves cog at the Warriors.
Such was his form and importance to the Warriors, they knew they had to secure his signing long term.
“Initially Chanel renewed for just the one season but we couldn’t be happier to have him with us for a longer term,” said One New Zealand Warriors general manager recruitment, pathways and development Andrew McFadden.
“It secures his future and ensures he will continue to be a critical part of our plans for at least the next three seasons. He has worked so hard at improving his game and has become one of the game’s most accomplished halves.”
Just one of 32 players to clock 100 NRL games for the Warriors, Harris-Tavita drew praise from coach Andrew Webster especially when the going got tough.
“We saw exactly why Chanel is so valuable to us on Saturday night, how calm he was and the way he stood up and took control when we were faced with adversity. He was really professional,” said Webster.
“He’s one of our most consistent players and is having a terrific season for us leading our left edge.
“We’re so glad he’s staying for two more years and we know he is going to become an even more important player for us.”
