His father Mark Geyer was a Western Reds legend and now Mavrik Geyer has a chance to emulate that at the Perth Bears, signing with the new franchise from 2027.

Geyer has signed a two-year deal and will follow in his dad’s footsteps when he steps out onto HBF Park.

As he looks to forge his own playing identity, Geyer admits it is a special moment to emulate his dad’s move to Perth and is excited at the new opportunity.

“It’s a pretty special moment for our family to have the chance to represent the Bears in their first season,” Geyer said.

“Dad loved his time in Perth, and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to represent the proud people of Western Australia.

“I know how passionate they are about their sport and I can’t wait to run onto HBF Park next season.”

Since debuting in first-grade in 2024, Geyer so far has 16 games to his name across stints with the Penrith Panthers and the Wests Tigers.

Bears head coach Mal Meninga is confident Geyer can make an impact and highlighted his versatility.

“Mav works very hard in both attack and defence and I’m excited to see what he can bring to our squad for next season,” Meninga said.

“He is effective in the middle and on the edge. He will make an immediate impact in our footy team.

“It’s a pretty special moment for Mav and his family and I’m delighted to welcome them all back to Western Australia.”
