If you have watched Ray Stone play at any point in his NRL career, you will know he is fearless, tenacious and tireless. His Dolphins stint will be his last, however, as injuries have forced him into retirement.
Stone, who became a cult hero no matter where he went or where he played, was a foundation Dolphins player, quickly endearing himself to all fans with his passion and fearlessness.
Just when Stone looked to have stringed a good number of games together, injury would strike but he never gave in and fought his way back.
As the body gets older and wearier, however, the club respect the decisions of the 29-year-old Stone to call time on his career.
“There is no doubt that Ray has come to our club and entrenched himself as a real hard man and one of our fans’ favourite players,” said Dolphins’ chief executive Terry Reader.
“He will forever hold a place in our history as the second NRL player signed by the club, and he has returned that favour by playing every game in a tough and uncompromising manner.
“We will always be thankful to Ray for the effort he has put in for the Dolphins and wish him and his young family all the best for the future.”
With 109 NRL games to his name at both the Parramatta Eels and the Dolphins, his 109th NRL game will see him play against his former side.
