It has been somewhat of a topsy-turvy NRLW season for the Canterbury Bulldogs and they have made a change with club legend Mark O’Meley to take over the reigns for 2027.

O’Meley played in 110 NRL games for the club between 2002 and 2007 and a was an integral part of the side’s 2004 NRL premiership and enjoyed a strong career across multiple clubs.

Since his retirement in 2013, O’Meley has held coaching stints within the Newcastle Knights system, the NSW Origin pathways and most recently as coach of the Bulldogs Harold Matthews side.

The role is a fresh challenge for O’Meley and one he looks forward to getting stuck into.

“I’m incredibly grateful and blessed to be given the opportunity to be the NRLW Head Coach for 2027,” O’Meley said.

“It’s a role I’m extremely proud of, and one I don’t take lightly.

“My philosophy has always been about building strong connections, setting high standards, keeping things simple and making sure we’re the best we can be at the basics.”

O’Meley promises that the Bulldogs NRLW side will play tough, as a team and be connected on and off the field as he looks to rebuild them for the 2027 season.

“We’ll be tough, we’ll be connected, and we’ll be hungry to get better every day,” O’Meley continued.

“The details matter, but so does enjoying the journey together.

“I’m really excited about what we can build in 2027 and, most importantly, I’m excited to represent this Club, our Members and our community with the pride it deserves.”

Current NRLW coach Brayden Wiliame will not be lost to the club as he moves into the men’s pathways system as he also praised O’Meley’s addition.

“Brayden has done a tremendous job building the foundation of our women’s program over the last 18 months and is committed to finishing his time as our NRLW Coach on a high,” Bulldogs General Manager of Football Phil Gould said.

“‘Ogre’ has a rich history with this Club and we’re looking forward to seeing our Members and fans get behind him next season.”
